This article is the first of its kind – a service menu and price guide for two types of users; a marketer looking to understand what he/she is really getting by purchasing social-media video content and an agency owner trying to determine how to monetize his/her offerings. As such, it sits in the second type’s supply chain. Vidpros is a post-production layer powering social-video agencies’ editing volume. Therefore, the cost analysis included within this article reflects both sides of the equation.

What is a social media video agency (and how does it differ from a generic video agency)?

A generic video agency will produce a single film/video and provide the client with a hero cut, along with several alternative versions. A social media video agency produces content using vertical format, watch-time hooks, and weekly content creation. Social media video production agencies understand platform-specific trends. Thus, the deliverable of a social media video agency is typically between six to fifteen short-form video cuts per month, created specifically for Tik Tok, Instagram Reels, Facebook and YouTube Shorts, as well as a separate variant pack designed for paid creative testing. Domo’s Data Never Sleeps puts TikTok at 167 million hours of video watched every internet minute. Video production services often include motion graphics and color grading.

As such, there are four primary areas of daily activity for a social media video agency:

  • Native shorts. original 15-30 second cuts filmed vertically, featuring on screen captions, hook-first pacing, and platform native trends.
  • Long-form repurposing. taking an hour-long podcast or 45-minute webinar and breaking it down into eight to twelve vertical clips with retention tuned hooks.
  • UGC Editing & Creator Wrangling. Taking raw phone footage provided by creators/staff and cleaning it up prior to shipping.
  • Paid Creative. Creating iterative variants for Meta and Tik Tok ad campaigns, creating twenty to thirty cuts per month per active campaign.

In theory, a traditional video agency can complete all of the above mentioned tasks. However, in reality, very few traditional video agencies operate at the scale required to meet the demand generated by social media. According to Wipster, only seven percent of companies create videos entirely in-house. Therefore, the social specialist agency has been developed to fulfill this void.

Here is a good test question to help identify if a potential agency partner is truly focused on social media content production. Ask them how many cuts did they ship last month? If they say “two campaigns” then they are simply a generic video agency referring to themselves as social media. If they say “180 cuts across 12 brands,” then they are capable of producing high-volume social content.

Best Social Media Video Production Agencies in 2026

Social Media Video Production Agencies

There are no paid placements listed below. No affiliate dollars are accepted. The comment added after each agency is based upon what the agency excels at doing.

Casual Films. UK headquartered global delivery network that specializes in enterprise brand work. Ideal for B2B brands requiring internal comms video plus social cut downs. Expensive.

Superside. Subscription design and video production with social cut-out teams baked in. Ideal for in-house marketing teams that prefer a fixed monthly retainer versus project quote based billing.

We Are Social. Creative Agency that provides video and also happens to specialize in social media content production. Ideal for brands seeking campaign ideas/production and are willing to pay agency of record prices.

PR + production hybrid Luminous. Ideal for use cases where social video content requires integration with larger PR efforts.

PlayPlay. Less an agency more of a SaaS tool that offers optional services. Ideal for marketing teams desiring to maintain control over in-house editing and only purchase pre-made templates plus expert review services.

Hurricane Images Inc. Per their website three spots cost $2,200, six spots cost $4,100, nine spots cost $5,900 with filming at your business and full post production available. Great middle market option for one-shoot-many-cuts packages.

Blare Video. Monthly retainer model. Cost includes 6 x 15 second videos with two half-days shooting: $890/month. Cost includes 9 videos: $1650/month. Minimum term of three months. Suitable for small-medium-sized business’s wanting predictable monthly output without having to commit large amounts of money towards individual shoot days.

Vidico. Industry benchmark for short-form pricing more than a household name in the US. Short-form social is priced between $1,000-$3000 per 15-30 second video. Mid-length 1-3 minute pieces are priced between $2,000-$7500.

Pattern across this list: Each one optimizes for a different buying motion. Project-based, Retainer, Agency-of-record, SaaS-plus-services. Choose the correct motion before selecting the vendor.

Optimizing Social Media Video Content Across Social Media Platforms

Below is the appropriate format-by-platform for competent social-video agencies.

TikTok

Vertical format: 9:16 aspect ratio

Length: Organic = 15-60 seconds. When rewarded by the TikTok algorithm = up to 90 seconds.

Hook must occur in the first 1.5 seconds

Captions burned in — a large share of feed viewing happens muted or in public, and on-screen text is what holds the scrollers who never turn the sound on.

Optimize for sound-on given TikTok’s entire algorithm is based off audio. Video increases brand awareness more effectively than text alone.

Instagram Reels

Same vertical specs as TikTok. Different audience expectations. While Reels viewers may accept a little more polish than TikTok viewers, they generally like less raw creator energy. Separate request: Still images/carousel posts. Sometimes include static frame pulls from the actual video shoot.

YouTube Shorts

9:16 vertical format

Up to 60 seconds length

Same hook rules apply as with other platforms

Unlike other platforms viewed by Shorts users are more likely to be converted into watching additional long-form video content. Agencies that successfully develop this strategy reference previous long-form videos that were recently published by the creator in order to drive cross-format watch time.

Facebook

Still the neglected platform. First step: square 1:1 still image will continue to outperform vertical content in older demographics. More so than with other platforms captions represent much higher importance in Facebook due to mute autoplay setting combined with older demos being more likely not to un-mute. Real social-video agencies will build separate Facebook variant packs and do not simply import Reel cuts into Facebook.

YouTube long-form

Home base of content development. Weekly episodic series (typically 8-12 minutes) for B2B industries or longer episodic series for entertainment based industries. The social-video agency should be bundling this with a clip-pack of 6-10 vertical cuts intended for TikTok, Reels, and Shorts viewing during the same week.

If you find an agency that shows you the exact same exported version across all four platforms — leave immediately. Cuts need to be different; this is exactly what you’re paying for through your production costs.

Cost of Social Media Video Production

Agencies should provide transparency in pricing and services offered. Using public data available to validate quotes and create some sane check points based on price bands:

Per Cut Economics. Vidico estimates average cost per cut at $1,000-$3,000 for 15-30 seconds for premium. Hurricane Images calculates package prices as follows: $656 per spot for 9 spots; $733 per spot for 3 spots. Blare Video calculates at $148 per video for the entry level retainer (amortized over two half-days shoots) but that is due to them being able to shoot two half-day shoots and produce six edits.

Hourly rates from agencies listed on Clutch. Agencies estimate hourly rates in the U.S., Canada and Australia at $100-$149 per hour and expect all projects will fall below $10,000. Freelancers rate by day. Per Capture Video & Marketing, $600-$1,200 per shooter and $60-$90 per hour for editors. Low end for new freelance photographers/shooters, is $300-$400 per day.

Retainers. According to Feedbird, social media management for SMBs is $800-$2,500 per month while enterprise retainers are greater than $10,000. As noted previously, video specific retains are generally more expensive than retains specifically for social media. The Fresh Content Society estimates agency retains will vary from $7,000-$25,000 per month for a full stack agency.

High-quality video content drives engagement and conversion rates. The reasonable price band for a brand looking to maintain a consistent supply of social video, including no additional shoot days would be $3,500-$8,000 per month for 12-20 edits of non-shooting, edited work. Including one-half day shoot per month, the price would increase to $5,500-$12,000 per month. Adding full studio production with talent will make the price exceed $15,000.

To Agency Owners Pricing Their Own Services: If you charge less than $300 per finished short, there is no profit left after accounting for the cost of editing labor, project management, revisions etc. For the purposes of creating revenue using a retainer pricing structure, target at least $400-$700 per cut. Retainer pricing should include enough margin so that you may achieve a 30-40 percent gross margin after editing labor. The ability of an agency to provide editing capacity determines whether your retainers will generate revenue or simply keep you busy.

In-House vs. Agency Social Video Production

In-House vs. Agency Social Video Production

The decision typically hinges on volume/consistency, rather than cost.

Internal Teams win when:

Agencies Win when:

  • You are posting weekly/bi-weekly,
  • You require format expertise across four platforms,
  • The amount of work increases during campaign times. Wipster: “They possess specialized knowledge of motion graphics, video editing and have insight into current video production trends and post-production options which is beneficial for producing large budget brand videos.”

Hybrid Model Winning In 2026

As stated above, in-house + agency hybrids are becoming increasingly popular in 2026. Per Simply Thrilled: “Many companies today are moving toward a hybrid approach: Companies with a limited internal staff for daily social or rapid turnaround content who then outsource larger projects to an agency.” Red Bull and Pepsi are examples of brands operating this way – In-house for every day content and agency for campaigns.

Fully Loaded Cost Math

According to Fresh Content Society: Internal teams are approximately $10,000-$15,000+ /month when you factor-in salaries, benefits, software and equipment. Agency retainers are priced at approximately $7,000-$25,000+ /month. The naive read is: “Agency retainers are cheaper.” The truer read is: Agency retainers are only cheaper if your output is constant. If your output is episodic and/or variable, internal teams incur idle time expense and agency retainers are burned unevenly.

Decision Rule

One cut a week: hire a freelancer. Two to fifteen cuts a week: hire an agency — that is more than spare in-house capacity absorbs and less than a headcount justifies. Fifteen or more cuts a week: you have passed the point where an agency retainer also beats loaded in-house cost, so run the hybrid — a small internal team for reactive and daily posting, an agency for volume and campaigns.

There is another trade off that nobody mentions: internal teams get burned-out by the demand of social’s volume requirements. An internal team of two can deliver approximately 25-40 cuts/mo before quality begins to degrade. At that point you’ll either have to add a third person or utilize an external editing layer. That equation is why many successful internal social teams secretly use an agency in addition to their in-house crew.

A Social Video Agency Service Menu: High-Impact Marketing Videos and Post Production Solutions

High-Impact Marketing Videos

For those who are agency owners looking to position themselves for new services, below is the long-form version of how the strongest social-video shops are pricing their services for 2026.

Long-form repurpose. Repurpose a source (30-90 minutes long, podcast, webinar, all hands meeting, etc.) into 8-15 vertical clips using hooks, captions and platform variations. Pricing: $150-$400 per clip or $2,000-$5,000 per source video as a flat rate. The short-form editing add-on will be your anchor service for this line.

Native Short Production. Create original 15-30-second videos that were shot on an iPhone Pro or Sony FX3 with full creative direction. Pricing: $400-$1,500 per finished short for just edit services or $1,500-$5,000 per finished short including the cost of the shoot.

Creative for Paid Media. Testing variant ad copy for Meta and TikTok paid advertising. Your output will be 15-30 different cuts per month per campaign, with 6-10 second hooks being tested against each other. Pricing: $4,000-$15,000/month per active campaign.

Editing and Wrangling Creator Footage/UGC. You do not shoot the footage. Instead you receive raw footage from creators and deliver platform ready edits. Pricing: $200-$500 per finished edit or $3,000-$8,000/month depending on volume.

Paid Social Management + Video. Combine your media buying with the edit services. At this level retainer fees move from $5,000/month to $25,000/month and represent a significant revenue stream.

Brand Building Campaigns. Long-form hero spots or longer form productions that may feature talent. Pricing: $10,000-$50,000/campaign. Less frequent use of service, more margin on individual projects.

Packaging social video offerings is an art unto itself. Agencies generating meaningful dollars in 2026 offer two to three packaged retainers along with a custom quote service tier instead of shooting from the hip to quote every project individually.

Social media videos that worked in 2025 and 2026; study them

Instead of listing specific viral hits (as they tend to fade quickly), here are the patterns that repeat themselves in successful examples in 2025-2026. Study the format types:

Before and After Demo. Visual demonstration of transformation in 15 seconds. Works across many industries such as Fitness, Beauty, Software, Real Estate, B2B SaaS etc., where you can visually demonstrate “Without Us” and “With Us”.

Single-Take Explainers. Host speaks continuously while filming one take in front of a camera while discussing a particular topic. Captions are placed throughout the video along with minimal b-roll layers. The hosts’ facial expressions are more important than production quality.

Animated Text on Screen Carousel Videos. Animated text reveal on top of a static image or a low motion video. Has the feel of an Instagram carousel but works better as video. Low cost to produce with high save rates.

Customer Shot UGC Edits. Authenticity is gained by using phone footage from customers or employees and cutting it tightly with branded captions. Polished vs Authentic is traded off here. Best utilized for items priced less than $200.

Day in the Life Cuts. Behind the scenes content that has been edited to 60-90 seconds with chapter cards. Best used on Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts.

Commonality among Winners: Hook within first 1.5 seconds, captions always present, Editor understands when to cut on the beat vs when to cut on the word. This last item is the most valuable thing a social-video editor brings to the table and is also why automated AI video editors still miss the mark when attempting to run real campaigns.

Is it worthwhile to outsource social media video production?

ROI math depends on how much content you produce, and what else you could be spending money on. Here are two possible scenarios.

Scenario a: SaaS brand. $2m annual recurring revenue (arr). Marketing team of two. They need to create four vertical cuts a week. In-house, that’s approximately 25 percent of one marketers time each week. Let’s assume they spend $1,500 / month in loaded labor, plus $300 in software. Therefore, total monthly cost is $1,800 / month. Agency retainer for producing the same 16 cuts @ $400/cut = $6,400 / month. So an Agency will make sense only if recovering that 25 percent of your week is valued above $4,600 / month. At $2M ARR that threshold rarely clears, which is why brands this size usually keep social video in-house until their volume climbs.

Scenario b: DTC brand. $20 million in revenue. Internal video team of three. They produce 30 cuts a week between organic and paid. Loaded labor costs run $35,000 – $45,000 / month. Agency retainer for producing the same amount of volume runs $20,000 – $25,000 / month. Now an Agency is significantly less expensive than in-house production, and the in-house team can focus on hero campaigns and creator partnerships.

There is a size barrier for when an Agency is less expensive than in-house production solely based on price. It appears to be between 15 – 20 cuts a week. Below that in-house production may appear expensive; however, due to the nature of retaining contracts, you’ll rarely find a better deal using an Agency below this point. However, once you reach this barrier point an Agency is generally faster and less expensive.

The cost of “doing nothing” is the most overlooked area that ROI models fail to consider. When you produce 1-2 cuts a week and your category requires 5-10 cuts a week, you are losing mind share. These losses don’t have a place in an ROI calculator, which is why they get so often neglected; however, these are the largest dollar amounts on both sides of this calculation.

How Outsourced Editing Keeps Social Video Agencies Profitable: Scaling Video Content for Social Media Marketing

This section is intended for Agency owners who wish to understand how they can continue to operate profitably at scale. If you are a brand buyer please proceed to the next section.

The economics of running a social-video Agency break down at scale in a predictable manner. The first five to ten retainer clients will fit on one or two full-time in-house editors. Once you pass this initial phase, you begin to experience the same hire – train – manage – burnout cycle every Agency experiences. An editor at $70k/year fully loaded will cost you approximately $7,000/month. Editors can produce approximately 40 – 60 finished social cuts per month before their output begins to drift in quality. Therefore, your capacity based on one full-time editor is approximately 50 cuts a month against $7k of monthly editor cost — about $140 per cut in labor.

It works fine when you are billing out at $500/per cut. However, it doesn’t work well when you grow and need to add another editor as each new editor will require additional training time of six – eight weeks prior to being available for client work. Additionally, there will be variance in quality across all editors which clients typically complain about.

Outsourced editing flips the math. A subscription-based editing partner charges flat fees per month with no delayed scaling required by hiring more staff, and absorbs any volume spikes that would otherwise cause you to overhire and then carry idle head count. We have watched social-video agencies transition from running two in-house editors at $14k/month to running only one in-house creative director plus a Vidpros subscription at $7k/month while doubling throughput.

The numbers we hear from Agency owners on our calls: at a rate of $400/cut billed and $150/cut delivered through outsourced editing, you net a margin of $250/cut with zero overhead from hiring more staff. At 200 cuts per month that is gross margin of $50k per month, with only one in-house creative reviewing the work prior to delivery to the client.

We are not the YouTube-specific editing agencies competing directly with you for clients. We don’t pitch directly to clients. We do not take retainers from your prospects. Instead we are the editing layer that allows you to continue selling. Unlimited editing for high volume social is the model that works best for agencies producing 100+ cuts per month. It is the same principle as the editing capacity behind a social-video agency — keep the creative judgement in-house, move the volume out.

If you have never included outsourced editing into your retainer pricing model please complete the spreadsheet exercise. Select your top three largest retainers and determine your in-house editor labor as a percentage of revenue. Next compare your results using flat rates for outsourced editing costs. The delta between your in-house labor costs and outsourced editing costs should typically range between 15 – 25 percent of revenue.

FAQs

What is the main distinction between a social-media video agency and a social media management agency?

A social media management agency will manage posting schedules, community engagement and analytics. Sometimes they may order video from an outside vendor but generally do not create video content. A social media video agency is primarily a production company which may be tied to a management agency or may have direct access to the brand.

How much time does a social media video agency take to complete delivery of edited social media video?

The standard timeline for delivering an edit only short is 2-4 business days. Adding a shoot adds an additional 5-10 days depending upon the amount of prep time and shooting schedule. For rush deliveries (24-48 hours) expect to pay 30-50% more.

What should be included in a contract when working with a social media video agency?

At minimum: a description of the scope of service provided (e.g., number of cuts per month, format specifications, maximum length of original source material); the process and parameters for revisions; specific turnaround times for completion; ownership rights for all raw footage and finished products delivered; and an exit strategy. Be wary of any contract that requires you to surrender all rights to the original raw footage should you choose to terminate service.

Do most social media video agencies work with your existing creators or in-house team?

Most do. Typically the model followed is where the agency edits footage shot by your team/creators with some agencies having a designated creative director who provides direction and reviews the completed product. Inquire prior to contracting services about whether the agency requires their own production capabilities or if they are able to utilize inbound footage.

How do I test a social media video agency before making a commitment?

Ask the agency to provide a paid pilot consisting of 2-4 cuts. Do not request free spec work. Consider paying anywhere from $500-$2000 for a limited batch and assess based on hook quality, caption design, turnaround time, and how they manage revisions. More than likely the pilot will tell you more about the quality of the agency than any case study deck.

What does Vidpros do specifically and who is it for?

Vidpros is a flat fee video editing subscription utilized by social video agencies, in-house video teams, and individual creators who need editing capability beyond what they currently have available. Vidpros is not a creative agency nor would we ever intend to be competing against clients for retainer agreements. If you operate a social video agency and wish to build a solid editing foundation or if you are an internal video department seeking increased video editing capacity, this is the intended user base. Simply send us an example of your project and we will edit your first one at no charge so you can compare our output to that of your current workflow.
